Growing up in the Midwest, Harrison’s childhood dream was to move to California and build special effects. After graduating from the Ohio State University with a degree in industrial design, he moved straight to Pasadena, CA, to try to break into the entertainment industry. By God’s grace, he landed his first job making helmets for Starship Troopers, which opened the doors to work on many other film projects building props, miniatures, and special effects.
However, when the movie industry shifted their productions to Canada for tax incentives, he found a job at an exhibit building company making a model for the SeaWorld island show “Cirque de la Mer.” That led him to using his CAD skills from college doing technical design for many other exhibits including Oakley, Disneyland, and various children’s museums and science museums.
In 2011, God started to prepare Harrison and his wife’s hearts for their next assignment, and in August of that same year, they moved their family of seven to Northern Kentucky. After a drawn-out hiring process, he started working for the Ark Encounter as the lead technical designer just as they were breaking ground on the project. He has held several roles in the ministry and is now director of exhibit production.
Harrison has had the privilege of working with the most talented creatives in his career for the past 14 years at the Attractions Design department of Answers in Genesis. Together their team has built the exhibits for the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum, as well as various sets, props, and costumes for AiG video productions.
On the side, Harrison has made gift maquettes for Disney artists, an evangelistic mobile ark called Ark Voyage, and he is currently helping develop a science museum in Washington state. He still enjoys working on indie film productions when time and opportunity allows.
Answers in Genesis is an apologetics ministry, dedicated to helping Christians defend their faith and proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ.
