The works of Charles Spurgeon have inspired millions of Christians around the world for over a hundred years. His wisdom and insight into God’s Word and world have helped others discover the richness of Scripture. Answers in Genesis is pleased to present the text of a large collection of sermons from this 19th century “Prince of Preachers.”
There are some people who could tell a story very like this man’s, a story of slavery to Satan, and deliverance by the power of Christ.
The sower did his work, and deserves to be remembered for what he did. David did his part of the work, in getting together the materials for the temple.
I am persuaded that, without a deep experience of sin, there is seldom much belief in the doctrine of grace, and not much enthusiasm in praising the Saviour.
The simple matter of which John speaks here is receiving Christ, or, in other words, believing in his name.
The people went astray from the true God into the ritualism of the golden calf. They must have something visible, something that they could see and worship.
I fear that I am speaking to some who are “without excuse: because that, when they knew God, they did not glorify him as God, neither were thankful.”
It did not do Daniel any harm to know that he was greatly beloved by God; or else he would not have received that information from heaven.
He remained just as true as ever; and he will be able to justify all that he has said, and all that he has done, and he will do so even to the end.
I hope that all of us who love him are trying to do what we can to build up his kingdom; but we need also to watch against deadly foes.
I want to encourage those who have faith enough to seek Jesus, but have not yet, to their joy and peace, been quite able to find him.
In reading any of the records concerning the peoples of Israel and Judah, one stands amazed by two things, and scarcely knows which to wonder about most.
Many of us have a desire within out hearts to come to God; but we need a High Priest, in order that we may draw near, one who shall be man as well as God.
We should feel extremely grateful whenever, in any place, God raises up a judge to deliver Israel, and when the people serve God all the days of that judge.
In the presence of Christ it seems very natural to trust him even in the worst extremity. When we are at our wits’ end then he delights to help us.
Jehovah has put their tears into his bottle, and in answer to their sighing sent them a message of hope.
You cannot fully estimate the value of what God gives. The gospel is a gospel of giving and forgiving.
According to some commentators, this vision in the valley of dry bones may refer to three forms of resurrection.
“Lord Jesus, we are one with you. We feel that we have a living, loving, lasting union with you.”
“Living, loving, lasting union”—three words which, in addition to being alliterative, are very comprehensive concerning the nature of our union with Christ.
It is remarkable that David should say, in Psalm 16, “You will not leave my soul in hell; neither will you permit your Holy One to see corruption.”
I am going to talk about how we ought to behave with regard to the future, and attempt to draw some lessons for our own correction and instruction.
The house of bondage is a true picture of our condition when we are convicted of sin, but are ignorant of the way to escape from its guilt and power.
Such a hope as this is “an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast”; and the man who has this anchor can never suffer spiritual shipwreck.
Instead of attempting to get right with God, these Israelites set about devising superstitious means of securing the victory over their foes.
These sermons from Charles Spurgeon are a series that is for reference and not necessarily a position of Answers in Genesis. Spurgeon did not entirely agree with six days of creation and dives into subjects that are beyond the AiG focus (e.g., Calvinism vs. Arminianism, modes of baptism, and so on).
