AIDS—No End in Sight

Featured in Answers Magazine

Last year marked the 25th anniversary of the discovery of HIV/AIDS. The deadly pandemic virus has been responsible for more than 25 million deaths. Nearly 40 million people worldwide are HIV positive, including over a million people in the United States and 68,000 in Great Britain.

Although discovered in 1981, the virus has been traced back to the 1950s.1 Scientists believe it spread to humans after hunters ate the meat of an infected primate, probably a chimpanzee. Initially found mostly in homosexual men, the syndrome today victimizes men, women, and millions of children, and 90% of all carriers don’t know they have it. Those who remain sexually abstinent and do not use injected drugs are the least likely to contract HIV.

Christians must remember that the origin of disease was the Curse, and that ultimately, the only cure for any disease is the restoration to a new heaven and new earth, which God promised in His Word.
