A worldview is a collection of presuppositions, convictions, and values which we use to understand the world. Rather than affecting selected areas, a worldview permeates every aspect of life.

Most Americans do not intentionally develop a worldview but rather absorb a worldview from the entertainment and news media they consume and the company they keep. George Barna, the research director, says, “It takes years of holistic teaching, integration of thought and behavior, and reinforcement of appropriate choices before someone is likely to develop a biblical worldview.”

Merely attending church on Sunday mornings, reading a devotional, following the Ten Commandments, or even attending a Christian school or college will not build a sufficient biblical worldview. A biblical worldview begins with salvation and grows stronger as you study, understand, and live by what Scripture teaches.

These results highlight an urgent need for Americans to return to God’s Word as the authority in all things. The Bible is “profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16), and as such should be the foundation for our thinking in every area of life.
