How can I, as a non-scientist, teach my children good science?

Many Christian parents worry about that question when it comes to helping their children know the truth about science and creation, especially once their kids enter high school. “Parents often feel intimidated by what their child is learning because they have not been exposed to that information themselves,” says Elizabeth Mitchell, a typical homeschooling mother for eleven years.

What many parents do not realize is that resources are available to help them teach a biblical view of science. Resources such as AnswersinGenesis.org, ICR.org, ChristianAnswers.net, and other creationist websites provide answers to thousands of questions students may have.

Parents who are nervous about tackling science need not be. In addition to lots of resources from all these websites, many different science curricula are available as a supplement if not the main curriculum. Some parents learn science along with their children, as they analyze and correct the false claims in secular materials.

“The challenges to the biblical faith are greater in high school than in the earlier grades,” Mitchell says, “so it becomes even more important that children receive instruction from a biblical perspective.”

In Deuteronomy 6:6–7, God told the Israelites that “these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children.” Today, God has provided parents the resources necessary to give children and teens a solid foundation in science, whether they are in government schools, private schools, or home schools. Parents are responsible to boldly use those resources to raise their children with a biblical worldview.
