Louisiana recently became the first state to pass a bill requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed in every public school classroom, from kindergarten to state universities.
On the surface, the new law seems like a positive presentation of biblical truth. But we should be cautious about forcing public schools to teach the Bible.
If atheistic or non-Christian teachers discuss the Ten Commandments or other biblical topics, they might misrepresent Scripture as outdated or oppressive. They certainly won’t present the Ten Commandments in tandem with the hope of the gospel—that a perfect Savior came to perfectly fulfill the Law and establish a new covenant with his atoning blood (Luke 22:20).
