The works of Charles Spurgeon have inspired millions of Christians around the world for over a hundred years. His wisdom and insight into God’s Word and world have helped others discover the richness of Scripture. Answers in Genesis is pleased to present the text of a large collection of sermons from this 19th century “Prince of Preachers.”
I shall have five texts — one of them a good one, the other four bad.
We ourselves, in our saved condition, are the workmanship of God, and with each of us the argument holds good, — “Not by works, for we are his workmanship.”
Happy is our condition when the glory of God fills both heart and tongue!
Deep as his griefs were, we may consider Jesus of Nazareth among the happiest of men.
Now, I want you to notice that when Joab fled to the tabernacle of the Lord, and took hold of the horns of the altar, it was of no use to him.
It is idle to think that we can mark out a place in the cemetery where none but saints shall sleep; but yet there is a truth at the basis of that folly.
We are much alike as children of the first Adam, and alike when we become children of the second Adam; and yet no two children of God are quite the same.
If Peter had said, “Not so,” there would have been a clear consistency in his language and tone.
The Master wishing to comfort his servants had them consider what they already knew, and review what they had already seen.
God intends man’s good, and only sets evil before him so he may turn from the dangers of a mistaken way, and so may escape the evil which lies at the end of it.
By seeing how God treated the rebellious angels, light may be cast upon his dealings with us, and by it misapprehensions may be removed.
“My God will hear me.” There is more eloquence in that sentence than in all the orations of Demosthenes.
This song of a city may belong to us as much as to the men of Judah, and we may throw into it a deeper sense of which they were not aware.
This morning, in our meditation, we will begin from the ascension; and I should like to picture our Lord and the eleven walking up the side of Olivet.
We hope that this new-born year will not be worse than its predecessor, and we pray that it may be a great deal better.
When the Eternal God stooped from heaven and assumed the nature of his own creature who had rebelled against him, the deed could mean no harm to man.
Every band of believers has some strength: weak as we are in ourselves, the very fact of our possessing faith proves that we have a portion of strength.
Everything seems lost, and yet as long as a man can look to God nothing is lost.
Brethren, if our experiences have so far exceeded our expectations and allayed our doubts, let us take care that we record them.
According as we measure out to our fellows, so do they measure back to us, for good or for evil.
David concludes that just as bears and lions die when they meddle with sheep, so must Goliath fall now that he dares to attack the Lord and his people.
I know that multitudes of sin-sick men and women are vexed with this same question. Oh that I could help them over the difficulty!
For many years David was searching for a site for the great temple which he planned to build for Jehovah his God.
When the Good Shepherd is taking one and another into his bosom, and bearing them away from us, we ought to recognise his presence with holy reverence.
These sermons from Charles Spurgeon are a series that is for reference and not necessarily a position of Answers in Genesis. Spurgeon did not entirely agree with six days of creation and dives into subjects that are beyond the AiG focus (e.g., Calvinism vs. Arminianism, modes of baptism, and so on).
