The works of Charles Spurgeon have inspired millions of Christians around the world for over a hundred years. His wisdom and insight into God’s Word and world have helped others discover the richness of Scripture. Answers in Genesis is pleased to present the text of a large collection of sermons from this 19th century “Prince of Preachers.”
“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and for ever.” This is true of our Lord in several respects.
Our faith looks to God the Father in salvation; and secondly, that our faith concerns itself with Christ as ours.
Prayer may speak to the souls of men as well as to God; and may be, for some men, the best testimony and witness to the gospel which they are able to bear.
If we die, it is not by chance, but because God takes us out of the world. Believers fall asleep in Jesus, neither before nor after the predestined time.
So God meets man in two ways; he meets him, first, by the perfect pardon of sin, and, next, by a complete deliverance from the power of sin.
However eminent for grace a man of God may be, it may happen to him, sometimes, that the thought of his sin may be paramount over his faith.
When Philip went to the city of Samaria, he found there a people prepared by the Lord. Jesus sowed the seed; Philip came, and reaped the harvest.
It is that cage of carnal trust, and that box of seed that we are always labouring to fill, that makes the worry of this mortal life.
We are all agreed on this one point, that the Lord’s supper is an emblem of the death of Jesus Christ, and of the way by which we receive benefit from him.
Christ will not die in vain. His Father gave him a certain number to be the reward of his soul’s travail, and he will have every one of them.
David’s life was a life of war. The Christian life wears other aspects; but still, in very deed and in truth, spiritually, it also is a life of war.
You know that it helps men to come to a person when they know who he is, how good he is, and how likely it is that they will find some benefit by coming to him.
I believe that, spiritually, as well as naturally, it is better to go to the house of mourning than to the house of feasting.
Knowing that he is about to leave the people, Moses is very anxious about their welfare, and he addresses them with this deep earnestness.
“Finished.” It was a Conqueror’s cry; it was uttered with a loud voice. There is nothing of anguish about it, there is no wailing in it.
When you see men faint, do not blame them. Perhaps, by their faintness, they have proved of what true stuff they are made.
Sunday is the market-day of the week; and if a man does well at market, he considers that he has done well for all the week.
Since the Lord Jesus Christ saved us when we were ungodly, and came to our rescue when we were without strength, we can never be in a worse condition.
Is there something for our spiritual palate, something to satisfy our spiritual appetite, so that we may eat, and be satisfied, and rejoice before the Lord?
You who have believed in Christ, it is time for us to bestir ourselves, for we have not preached the gospel to every creature yet by a long shot.
In anticipation of Calvary, Jesus’ soul was full of trouble; not that he feared death, but his death was to be a very particular one.
In this passage we have several examples of Christ acting as he could not have acted if he had not possessed a royal and divine power.
Beloved friends, let us who love Christ keep him always in memory. If you can speak of his name, do not be silent.
It is the preacher’s business to endeavour to make plain to the people the meaning of the word FAITH.
These sermons from Charles Spurgeon are a series that is for reference and not necessarily a position of Answers in Genesis. Spurgeon did not entirely agree with six days of creation and dives into subjects that are beyond the AiG focus (e.g., Calvinism vs. Arminianism, modes of baptism, and so on).
