Protecting Kids from LGBTQ+ Pressure

Irish teacher Enoch Burke was recently jailed for breaching a court order that barred him from being at his school or teaching. The order came after Burke’s refusal to address a transgender student as “they” instead of “he.” After the court’s ruling, Burke said, “It is insanity that I will be led from this courtroom to a place of incarceration, but I will not give up my Christian beliefs.”

Burke is not alone. At schools around the world, people are pushing back against the folly of the LGBTQ+ agenda. In Australia, 11 private schools are requiring prospective families to support statements against homosexuality and diverse gender identity, such as “God’s intended best for humankind is that we live our lives in accordance with our biological sex.”

In the United Kingdom, attorney general Suella Braverman stated that schools need not accommodate children's gender wishes, enabling schools to treat students by their birth sex. She stated, “Under-18s cannot get a gender recognition certificate, under-18s cannot legally change sex . . . . A male child who says in a school that they are a trans girl, that they want to be female, is legally still a boy or a male. And schools have a right to treat them as such under the law.”

In the US, Virginia’s Department of Education recently ordered schools to stop hiding transgender students’ health information from parents. The directive also states that school staff will not be required to contradict their religious beliefs by addressing a student in any manner. Virginia schools must “keep parents fully informed about all matters related to a child’s health and social and psychological development,” and are not permitted to allow students to enter opposite-sex bathrooms and other private places.

Outside the schoolroom and on the silver screen, the new LGBTQ+ rom-com Bros reportedly “bombed” at the box office on opening weekend, making a mere $4.8 million. Writer-star Billy Eichner took to Twitter to scold heterosexual people for not showing up, urging, “everyone who ISN’T a homophobic weirdo, go see Bros tonight.”

But a plethora of people didn’t go see Bros—and Hollywood took notice. Perhaps people have had enough of being told they must accept and celebrate the LGBTQ+ lifestyle. People around the world are resisting, despite drawing attacks on Twitter and even enduring imprisonment. Christians are called to stand on the authority of God’s Word with an unwavering commitment to the truth and standing for that truth in love—whatever the cost.
