In honor of Pride Month (June), Disney has introduced its first homosexual lead character. According to the Christian Post, Disney/Pixar released the short Out last month on Disney+. It is the first time the main character of a Disney show is depicted as gay while presenting a “coming out” as a practicing homosexual story.
In terms of reach, Disney is unmatched in “family” entertainment.
This is significant. The Walt Disney Company (DIS) is currently valued at $214 billion on the New York Stock Exchange. In terms of reach, Disney is unmatched in “family” entertainment. Through their feature movies including the Star Wars franchise, their cable channels (Disney, ABC, ESPN, Disney, etc.), their new streaming service Disney+, and 12 theme parks, no other company in the world is as influential in shaping young minds than Disney. And this is not the first time Disney has promoted homosexual behavior in its films.
(Spoiler Alert!) Disney’s march toward Sodom-like depravity has been happening a while. Many of Disney’s supposed gay characters were not openly homosexual in the past. Some were “coded” to be gay in a time when LGBTQ+ characters were not as widely accepted. These are some of the major milestones of confirmed (or speculated) gay promotion in Disney films according to cbr.com and other sources:
In short, Disney abandoned a Christian sexual ethic decades ago. In the past seven years, they have increasingly promoted homosexual conduct in their animated feature films targeted toward children. It’s no surprise they’re now pushing openly homosexual propaganda in their Pixar short film Out.
Apparently, Disney thinks homosexual activity is worth promoting. Disney risks alienating a sizable chunk of their Christian customer base with overt promotion of LGBTQ+ characters. In light of Disney’s descent into moral anarchy, we should revisit why this is even important. The reason to be concerned is because God, in his Word, is concerned about homosexual behavior.
What does the Bible say about homosexuality? Scripture condemns many sins. Some sins against God include dishonoring parents (Exodus 20:12), greed (1 Timothy 6:10), blasphemy (Revelation 13:6), and laziness (2 Thessalonians 3:10). God takes all sin seriously. But some sins like adultery (Hebrews 13:4) and homosexual acts (Romans 1:27) are placed in a special category. Paul wrote, “Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body” (1 Corinthians 6:18). Those who commit sexual sin, including homosexual sin, are guilty of sinning against both God and their own bodies.
In Genesis, we learn about Sodom. In response to the “outcry against its people”, two angels visited Sodom to warn Lot’s family to escape God’s judgement on the city (see Genesis 19:1–29). Though angelic help, this righteous family escaped the clutches of a band of aggressive homosexuals. They fled the city and “then the LORD rained on Sodom and Gomorrah sulfur and fire from the LORD out of heaven. And he overthrew those cities, and all the valley, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground” (Genesis 19:24-25).
Some have argued that the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah was something other than sexual sin. However, the primary sin of Sodom was homosexual activity as can be seen from other Scripture. Answers in Genesis’ staff writer Troy Lacey reviewed the different possibilities for the sin of Sodom and concluded:
“The primary outward sin of Sodom and Gomorrah is definitively settled . . . in Jude 1:7, “as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.” Other versions, such as the ESV use the terminology “pursued unnatural desire” here. So, the Bible is clear that sexual sin and homosexual behavior, in particular, was the outward sin for which they (Sodom and Gomorrah) were destroyed.”
Those judged during that time were guilty of multiple sins, but Sodom was primarily guilty of homosexual sin, and it is this sin that the Disney continues to promote.

In the past, Christian groups have organized boycotts against Disney for its homosexual advocacy. Whether boycotts work or whether Christians can organize an effective boycott is another discussion. However, there are two things we can do related to sinful propagation that are strongly supported in Scripture.
Recognize evil as “evil”
First off, we must remember that sin is still sin. Whatever the current culture may believe, God’s Word does not change. Evil is still evil whether its committed in a dark alley or paraded in movies. Homosexual behavior is no different. It doesn’t matter how many immoral shows Disney pushes, God has already spoken. And yet, sexual immorality continues to be celebrated through Pixar shorts like Out.
Isaiah the prophet spoke against this kind of morality reversal in his day. He wrote, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!” (Isaiah 5:20). God pronounced a special “woe” or curse on those who would dare to oppose his definition of evil. Whatever God has said is evil still is.
Christian, stay true to God’s Word. If God marks dishonoring parents, laziness, adultery, or homosexual behavior as sin, believe it. Don’t redefine God’s Word to suit the current cultural narrative. Believe God’s Word over man’s word.
Share the gospel
Secondly, share the gospel. Those who are stuck in any sin are still people. The management, employees, and customers (or not) of Disney are all made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). Thankfully, God has not left us to ourselves. Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 6:9–11 (emphasis mine):
“Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”
Although unrepentant idolaters, thieves, adulterers, and homosexuals will not go to heaven, repentant idolaters, thieves, adulterers, and homosexuals will go to heaven. This means that they need to turn from their sin and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ (Mark 1:15; Romans 6:1-4). God promises forgiveness and “washing” from all kinds of sins. After all, if we truly follow Christ then we were forgiven of many sins as well.
So share this news with others. Jesus died, was buried, and was resurrected for those who repent and believe the good news (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). Share the good news with your family, friends, classmates, and co-workers. Share the good news with the next person you see wearing a Mickey Mouse shirt. People can be forgiven and freed from their sin thanks to the amazing grace of God in Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit—including those enslaved to sexual sin.
