Battle for the Heart

The most important battles in today’s culture wars are being fought on your watch, at your house.

We are all at different stages in life. At the Mason house, our kids’ bedrooms are now unoccupied and our slice of suburbia is tranquil most of the time. But recently, all our children and grandchildren were over for Sunday dinner and several hours of “hanging out.” I love sitting back and watching as our grown-up kids and their spouses work through training issues with the precious little lives that God has entrusted to them.

But that day it hit me with renewed intensity that I dare not simply sit back and watch. Now more than ever I need to make the most of every opportunity. So do you.

The culture is rapidly changing because more and more hearts are turning away from God. From the definition of marriage to the definition of life and its impact on unborn babies, wrong is being legislated as “right” at dizzying speeds. Biblical truth is being redefined as prison-worthy hate speech.

Culture wars are fought throughout society but they are won (or lost) one heart at a time.

To win those hearts, our own hearts must first know and submit to the authority of God’s Word. Then in God’s design, we share the truth and grace of Jesus with others—those we love, those we are praying for, those we know God has brought into our sphere of influence: young or old, in our backyard, at our business, or on our bus route.

Making the most of every opportunity is a charge God gives to each Christian in Ephesians 5:16. Our part is to share the gospel and allow the Holy Spirit to work, opening eyes and transforming lives.

At Answers magazine we are passionate about responding to our call to share the truth. We share it with you, and you share it with others. And we all rejoice when God uses this offering to change hearts, even in the midst of a wicked culture (Galatians 1:4).

I urge you to use this issue of Answers strategically. It addresses earnest, heartfelt questions and places them in the context of the fallen world in which we live, revealing the truths of the Bible from the very first verse!
