“Polycarp: Destroyer of Gods”—A Must-Watch Film

by Ken Ham on February 23, 2015

Few people know the story of what happened to the early church after the end of the book of Acts almost 2,000 years ago. It’s an intriguing story of how, even in the face of intense persecution, the early church stood firm for Christ and the gospel. Well, you now have an opportunity to see this exciting story for yourself in a full-length feature film.

Polycarp: Destroyer of Gods is described this way in a press release:

Anna, a young slave girl, is rescued and adopted by Christians in 2nd Century Smyrna, and befriended by their aged bishop, Polycarp. As Anna is taught by Polycarp and her new family, she struggles to reconcile her beliefs with those of the Christians. When the Roman proconsul demands that all citizens worship Caesar to show their allegiance to Rome, Polycarp and the Christians must find courage to stand for their faith against the growing threat of persecution. Anna is forced to come to grips with the truth and choose whom she is willing to live—and die—for.
This film is based on the true historical account of the life of Polycarp, one of the early church fathers. It challenges Christians of all generations to stand boldly on the gospel in the face of persecution. In the Western world our faith is increasingly coming under attack from our secularized society, so this movie is very timely for us today.

Polycarp will be screening in churches nationwide starting today, February 23, 2015. I encourage you to go to see it at a church near you or host a viewing at your own church. For more information or to register your church, go here.

After I watched this new movie I was moved to consider if I would be prepared to stand for the Lord as Polycarp did. I believe every Christian needs to be challenged by this film. Based on real history and real Christians suffering real persecution, it’s a message we all need to be reminded of. Christian persecution is already happening in America—and it’s going to increase if things continue as they are. How would we compare to such a man as Polycarp?
