Paramount Executive Levels Ad Hominem Attack

A Paramount executive has leveled an ad hominem attack against me because I spoke out against the unbiblical movie this studio just produced, Noah.

In The Hollywood Reporter (and as was also reported in The Christian Post), Paramount vice chairman Rob Moore (who calls himself a “devout Christian”) reportedly answered a question about the public response to his Paramount film with this statement:

There are two groups of people: one that is excited that Hollywood has made a blockbuster based on the Bible and book of Genesis, and a small vocal minority who don’t think it’s OK to make a movie that isn’t literal and who don’t have the respect to let people evaluate it for themselves. Darren took a lot of creative license in telling a story from the Bible. Ken Ham, who works for the Institute of Creation Research, has become the guy who continues to take to the microphone criticizing the film . . . and who has tried to keep the spotlight on himself. But there are a lot of credible religious leaders, including the Rev. Samuel Rodriguez [president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference], who have come out saying this is a movie people should see. [emphasis in original]

I certainly did warn people about the unbiblical (in fact, anti-biblical) Noah movie because of my passion for God’s Word and the gospel. The vice chairman of Paramount took a swipe at me by questioning my integrity after I have critiqued his movie, claiming that I am a person “who has tried to keep the spotlight on himself.” That is certainly an ad hominem attack that questions my motives and integrity as I merely alert people to a movie that distorts the biblical account of Noah and the Flood.

It’s interesting to note that, after his ad hominem attack, Moore is reported as saying, “But there are a lot of credible leaders.” So, in context, the implication is that I’m not credible!

No doubt Paramount does not want the truth about the movie Noah getting out to the church. In my opinion, they have duped much of the church into thinking this movie is much like the account of Noah, the Ark, and the Flood in the Bible—which it is not.

It’s hard to believe that any Christian could defend a movie that portrays a great hero of the faith like Noah as a homicidal maniac! Noah comes across as an angry psychopath, and he believes God told him to kill his grandchildren! When he doesn’t kill them, he believes he has failed. That’s not just “creative license” in a movie. It is gross distortion of the biblical account. (The massive problems with the film, and where it deviates from Scripture and maligns God’s character, can be found in our detailed review.)

Sadly, Paramount has really gone after the church audience! The movie was not produced to honor God’s Word or in any way point people to the truth of God’s Word. The film is an attack on God’s Word—an attack on the character of Noah and an attack on the character of the holy God! As Dr. Al Mohler, president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, says, he was “grieved” watching this movie. See his review titled “Drowning in Distortion—Darren Aronofsky’s ‘Noah.’”

I stand unashamed by what I have stated about this ungodly movie and challenge any Paramount executive to show me how this movie in ANY way honors God’s Word! You can watch our video review of the movie, read our detailed review of the movie, or read our shorter review.

By the way, I do not work for the Institute for Creation Research (ICR), as Moore is reported as stating. I am the president of Answers in Genesis and the Creation Museum. I did work for ICR and its late Dr. Henry Morris 20 years ago!

Well, at least I’m glad Paramount has taken notice of how Answers in Genesis stands up for biblical authority in the culture. I hope any person who claims to be Christian at Paramount would reconsider their support for this shocking movie. It’s shocking because it is supposedly based on the Bible but in reality the only similarity to the biblical record are some names (Noah, his sons, Methuselah, and Tubal Cain), the Ark, and the Flood—and that’s it!

Let me end with these verses from Scripture:

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:4–5)

We all need to be watchmen (Ezekiel 3). It is sad when my passion to warn people about an anti-biblical movie is then used by a professing Christian and executive at Paramount to attack my character!
