What you believe about the past matters. It forms your starting point for interpreting the evidence in the present world. Now, take climate change for example.

Some people begin with the idea that the Earth is millions of years old … and the temperature has had gradual changes in the past. So in this view, climate change is alarming and it’s likely modern man’s fault.

But if we start with God’s Word, we have a different starting point for looking at the Earth’s past. The Earth was created recently—with a “very good” climate. But over four thousand years ago, there was a catastrophic global Flood that totally changed the climate.

The Earth is still actually settling down from the flood and its aftermath!
