The works of Charles Spurgeon have inspired millions of Christians around the world for over a hundred years. His wisdom and insight into God’s Word and world have helped others discover the richness of Scripture. Answers in Genesis is pleased to present the text of a large collection of sermons from this 19th century “Prince of Preachers.”
It is important for Christians also to remember their tenses, — to remember the past, the present, and the future.
It is possible that it was absolutely necessary that you should be brought as low as you are in order to cure you of your sin.
You know how much our Lord Jesus Christ loved by knowing how much he gave. He gave himself for us because he loved us with all the force and energy of his nature.
We must be conformed to our Lord in his humiliation if we would be made like him also in his glory.
True religion is always a matter of desire. If you do not desire to fear God, you do not fear him.
“Come, and let us walk in the light of the Lord.” What does this invitation mean? First, I think it means, let us make use of that light.
Since Christ could not be held by the bonds of death, it is not possible to keep in bondage anything that belongs to him.
What is the reason for the revelations, which the Holy Spirit sometimes makes to us, of the evil of our hearts?
Remember that the greatest force in the world is love; it is invincible. You can love a man to Christ, but you cannot bully him into salvation.
Our Lord Jesus Christ ought to be believed on his own unsupported word. God cannot lie; and that Christ is God is abundantly proved by his miracles.
When your heart yields itself up and falls into the hands of Christ, it is then that Christ invites you when he says, “Come to me, and I will give you rest.”
If you would successfully wrestle with Satan, make the Holy Scriptures your daily resort.
The life of the believer is everlasting, but it needs food to sustain it.
You, dear friends, may be patient under suffering, but not patient under sin.
The longer God’s arm is lifted up, the more terrible will be the blow when at last he strikes. To sin against the patience and longsuffering of Almighty God, is to sin with a vengeance.
Please always remember that sin itself is “the evil” to you. It will always be so to you as long as you live, and, though forgiven, it is still sin pardoned.
The psalmist says, “Show your marvellous lovingkindness”; and we ought to ask God to let us see it.
When sinners receive Jesus, they receive him joyfully, so that there is joy on both sides. The Saviour is glad to save, and the sinner is glad to be saved.
May God grant you, brethren, to grow in grace! Growth in grace is intimately connected with growth "in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ."
Every man may know that the responsibility of his coming to the Lord’s table rests entirely with himself. “Let a man examine himself, and so let him eat.”
“He takes away the first”; the blood of bulls and of goats; — “so that he may establish the second,” which is Christ himself, the one effective propitiation for sin.
Angels take a deep interest in the gospel because they observe God’s interest in it. What God cares about, angels care about at once.
You have only to get a hearing from God, and you know what the result will be when your Heavenly Father knows what things you have need of.
It is far more profitable to talk about the Word of God, even in a controversial manner, than to turn utterly away from it, and neglect it.
These sermons from Charles Spurgeon are a series that is for reference and not necessarily a position of Answers in Genesis. Spurgeon did not entirely agree with six days of creation and dives into subjects that are beyond the AiG focus (e.g., Calvinism vs. Arminianism, modes of baptism, and so on).
