PBS Loses Access to 70 Years of Archival Footage

What does a complicated legal dispute over archival footage have to do with Answers in Genesis?

Well, according to one tech website, a PBS broadcaster called Nine PBS “is afraid that it will lose over 70 years of archival materials and programming after its contracted cloud storage vendor has apparently gone out of business.” Over 50 terabytes of data from footage going back to the 1950s is at risk of being completely lost due to Nine PBS being currently unable to retrieve the data after the cloud storage system they contracted with went out of business and the company currently hosting the data refused to give it back (though it appears a judge ruled they do have to give it back—so hopefully they can get it back!).

This story is a good reminder of why we built our streaming platform, Answers TV! We wanted to be able to preserve past conferences and past presentations, while also creating lots of new content, and not have to worry about being deplatformed by a company that doesn’t like our message—or, apparently, as Nine PBS is finding out, a company that just doesn’t want to give footage back!

Social media such as YouTube is a wonderful resource for sharing the message of biblical authority—we get millions of views across our channels each year—but it’s limited, and there’s always the risk of deplatforming. So we created our streaming platform, Answers TV, to do our best to ensure easy access to all of our Answers in Genesis materials, including past “archival” footage that’s not available anywhere else. And, of course, we keep backups.

Answers TV now hosts over 7,000 programs including nature documentaries, hands-on science shows, adventure programs, teaching presentations, in-depth Answers University series, animated shows for kids, Spanish and Arabic language programming, and so much more. And everything teaches biblical worldview, apologetics, and the gospel and is safe for the whole family.

If you haven’t subscribed to Answers TV, I encourage you to check it out. Go to Answers.tv for a free seven-day trial.

Oh, and with the homeschool year just starting, I especially encourage homeschool parents to check it out—it’s a wonderful supplement to your homeschool curriculum. You’ll find science, music appreciation, culture and social studies, and so much more on Answers TV.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
Ken
