Australia Legalizes Same-Sex Marriage

A video by CNN shows Parliamentarians rejoicing at the legalization of same-sex “marriage,” hugging, singing songs, and even wearing rainbow socks and scarfs. Now, these lawmakers may well celebrate the perversion of God’s marriage ordinance, but they need to shudder at the thought that each of them will one day answer to God: "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God" (Hebrews 10:31).

In the video, Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull exclaimed, “What a day! What a day for love, for equality, for respect!” No, Prime Minister, it’s not about "love" and "respect.” It’s about you and other Parliamentarians exalting sin and mocking the God who created marriage and mocking his Word—for which God will have the last say in his time.

It’s not about equality, since everyone is equal before God. It’s all about morality—who determines what’s right and what’s wrong? God or man? Australia chose man’s word over God’s Word and sadly will reap the detrimental consequences in many ways.

Many Christian leaders and lawmakers urged the Australian Parliament to add religious freedom protections into the same-sex marriage bill, but they declined to do so. They claim that other religious freedoms exist that will protect Christians and others. But, as we’ve seen in the UK, Canada, and now here in America, that won’t be the case. The LGBT lobby is not content to have tolerance for their views—they want to push their mindset on the culture and force everyone to affirm and celebrate their sinful behavior. It’s only a matter of time before Australians begin to experience the loss of freedom of speech and the free exercise of religion that those in other nations have experienced.

We also need to pray that those who are caught in this lie will come to know the true freedom that comes through Christ:

If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. . . . Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. . . . So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. (John 8:31–32, 34, 36)
