Report: 25% of Church of England Churches Have No Children

One in four Church of England congregations don’t have a single child that regularly attends Sunday morning services. Because that denomination failed to reach the last generation, the current generation won’t be found on church pews either. And, if this trend continues, neither will the next generation. Church attendance in the UK is already down to just over 4%, down from over 45% about 70 years ago!

A new report has found the following:

  • The smallest 25% of Church of England congregations have an average of zero children attending their Sunday morning services.

  • Median-sized churches average just three children attending each week.

  • The largest 5% of churches have only 35 children on the average Sunday morning.

  • Of the nearly one million Sunday morning Church of England congregants, a mere 14% are children.

The Church of England is failing to keep the next generation. And, sadly, this is true of other congregations I’ve seen during my dozens of trips to the UK, including one last week. Yes, there’s a remnant of churches that are impacting the culture and the next generation, but, sadly, these are the exception, not the norm. Why is this?

Most of the Church of England clergy and leadership have long compromised God’s Word, beginning in Genesis. Instead of basing their thinking on God’s Word, they have allowed secular ideas—such as evolution and millions of years—to influence their interpretation of the Bible. Instead of trusting God’s Word and standing on the authority of Scripture, they have allowed man to be the authority over God’s Word and have simply reinterpreted many passages to allow for the secular religion of our day. No wonder this generation has left! They recognize the hypocrisy of claiming to believe the Bible but just changing parts of it to mean whatever they want it to. This same sad trend is happening through the whole Western world and for the same reason.

I’ve been warning American churches for years that this trend is where we are headed on this side of the pond if most of the church and Christian leaders continue compromising God’s Word with the pagan religion of our day (evolution and millions of years), as they are increasingly doing. This teaching undermines the authority of God’s Word and makes us—not God—the authority. And if we’re the authority, we make the rules, and the Bible is irrelevant.

We need to get back to the authority of God’s Word in all areas, beginning in Genesis!

We need to get back to the authority of God’s Word in all areas, beginning in Genesis! That’s why AiG’s theme for this year is Igniting a New Reformation. Yes, we need a reformation in our churches and Christian institutions before we can see revival.

UK Mega Conference a Success

It’s exciting to see that there is a vibrant remnant of believers, even in the UK, who love God’s Word! I was recently in Great Britain for our UK Mega Conference in West Bromwich (near Birmingham). This conference was well attended with nearly 1,700 people (including hundreds of kids and teens) registered—a fantastic turnout for a Christian conference in the UK. (From a Christian perspective, the UK and most of Europe are spiritually dead.) Attendees came from 15 countries including many other European countries, Mexico, Australia, and even the United States. We were thrilled to see many young people and families in attendance.

People stocked up on resources, and copies of Dr. Nathaniel Jeanson’s groundbreaking new book, Replacing Darwin, sold out within minutes after the second of his three one-hour presentations about the research detailed in the book. It was great to see such hunger for answers!

While I was there, I heard many, many testimonies from people who’ve been impacted by AiG’s ministry over the decades. I recorded two of these testimonies and thought I would share them with you.

We are so thankful to see what God is doing around the world through AiG outreaches!

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
