Ontario, Canada, To Issue Male, Female, or “X” Driver’s Licenses

Would you like to be M, F, or X? That’s the question those applying for a driver’s license in Ontario, Canada, will have to answer in 2017. This new X option is the gender identifier for those who “do not exclusively identify as male or female.”

In addition to the X option on driver’s licenses, Ontario health cards (a form of photo ID that shows eligibility for public heath care) will no longer display gender identifiers. These changes are to “ensure the fair, ethical and equitable treatment of people with trans and non-binary gender identity.”

Now, certainly all people deserve “fair, ethical, and equitable treatment.” After all, every single person is made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27) and Christ offers his salvation to anyone who believes and repents (John 3:16; Acts 2:38). But this does not mean that our Western culture needs to bow to the sinful lifestyles and arbitrary choices of individuals. Even while we affirm the value of every person, we need to recognize that all people are sinful (Romans 3:23) and make choices in rebellion against God and His Word.

Sadly, instead of recognizing these behaviors and choices as sinful, our secular culture has largely decided to whole-heartedly embrace and celebrate them.

Sadly, instead of recognizing these behaviors and choices as sinful, our secular culture has largely decided to whole-heartedly embrace and celebrate them. And the further our Western culture gets from its foundation of God’s Word, the more we will see things like transgender activism increasing. Since the solid foundation of God’s Word has been replaced with man’s ever-changing ideas, the ethic of our day is for everyone to do “whatever is right in his own eyes” (Judges 21:25).

Many people in the church—especially young people—have been so influenced by the culture’s do-whatever-feels-right ethic that they accept whatever is popular, regardless of whether or not it contradicts God’s Word. Christian leaders and parents need to note this growing trend and teach their young people to think biblically, starting with God’s Word. That’s the only way we can raise up a generation that stands solidly on the Bible and the gospel of Jesus Christ. And they need to be reminded of Scripture such as, “But from the beginning of the creation, God “made them male and female” (Mark 10:6).
