Abortion Battle Continues in California

by Ken Ham on April 25, 2015

The abortion battle is reportedly heating up yet again in California. According to Life News, “a California committee has approved a bill that would force pregnancy centers providing women with abortion alternatives to refer women for abortions.” Apparently, “there is no conscience clause or opt out for centers that provide pregnant women assistance without abortions or abortion referrals.” So even Christian centers that provide women with alternatives to abortion, if this legislation goes through, would be forced to promote abortion or face fines.

This startling piece of legislation further highlights the increasing war on religious freedom raging across America. Potentially this reported legislation could force religious groups who reject abortion on moral grounds to still have to refer women for abortions. This is a direct assault on the religious freedom of these groups. If this goes through, they wouldn’t be able to run their ministries in accordance with their religious principles and beliefs. Again, we are seeing a theme that has been obvious in regard to “gay marriage”—you are free to have your beliefs, but you just can’t act on those beliefs. But that isn’t religious freedom at all! Free exercise of religion, as given in the First Amendment, is under attack!

As our culture has moved further and further from basing its thinking on God’s Word, we are seeing an increase of the moral relativism of this sinful world being forced on Christians. It’s not enough for the world to do what’s right in its own eyes (Judges 21:25) but, sadly, the world wants Christians to be forced to accept the world’s definition of morality. But because we have a different starting point—God’s Word, not man’s word—we have a completely different foundation for morality. As Christians, we can boldly stand against abortion and call it what it is—murder—because God’s Word tells us murder is wrong. Genesis tells us that human beings are made in God’s image (Genesis 1:26–27). We have intrinsic value, even before we are born, simply because we are made in the very image of our Creator. Life is precious!
