Study: Abortion Pill Complications Are 22 Times Higher Than Reported

Abortion pills are touted as being safe—as safe as Tylenol!—for women. Of course, regardless of the truth of that claim, those pills certainly aren’t safe for the unborn babies they kill (murder)! But a new study (the largest known study of its kind) from the Ethics and Public Policy Center uncovered that these pills are not nearly as “safe” for the women taking them as the FDA-approved drug labels and abortion activists claim.

Today, abortion pills (which are taken early in pregnancy and are available, at least by mail, in every state, regardless of the legality of abortion) make up the vast majority (63%) of abortions. These abortion pills (called mifepristone) work by first blocking the production of the hormone progesterone. Without progesterone, the woman’s body does not nourish the baby and the baby dies. The drug then induces contractions to remove the baby’s tiny body from the uterus. Obviously, this is not safe (as it’s deadly) for the baby . . . but what about for the mom?

Well, a new analysis looked through an insurance claims database at 865,727 mifepristone abortions (that’s at least 865,727 babies dead!) from 2017–2023. This means their study is based on “real-world incidents,” compared to the data used to write the FDA-approved label currently on the drug which was based on 10 clinical trials and only 30,966 participants (and some of the data is old, dating back to 1983).

The label reports that less than 0.5% of women “experienced serious adverse effects” (again, they aren’t including the baby’s death as an adverse effect). But this new robust, real-world study found it’s actually 10.93% of women! To put that into perspective, that’s 1 in 10 women who take mifepristone that suffer an adverse health effect!

[The study found that] 10.93 percent of women who had mifepristone . . . experienced severe complications including sepsis, infection, hemorrhaging, or another serious adverse event within 45 days following the abortion. . . .

Contrary to what some may claim, the abortion pill is not like Tylenol. We find that one out of every ten women who takes the abortion pill will suffer from a serious adverse event, like hemorrhage or infection, soon afterward. A third to a half of these women will then go to the ER or even be hospitalized as a result. . . .

Simply stated, mifepristone, as used in real-world conditions, is not “safe and effective.”

[Abortion is] deadly for the baby and dangerous (and even deadly in some cases) for the mother.

This new study reveals what all of us should know intuitively—abortion isn’t safe. It’s deadly for the baby and dangerous (and even deadly in some cases) for the mother. But you won’t hear “women’s advocates,” Planned Parenthood, or those who claim to care about “women’s health” talking about this study and demanding answers—I predict they won’t say a word about it because they don’t really care about women. They care about making it as easy as possible for women to end the lives of their unborn children. They don’t care about babies and they don’t care about their mothers because, ultimately, they love sin and death. It’s their religion of death.
