In the book of Exodus, we read about a time in Israel’s history when the people were enslaved in Egypt. God saved them with a great deliverance, but first he instituted the Passover celebration.
You see, God had sent nine plagues on Egypt and yet Pharoah hardened his heart. So, God sent a tenth plague—the death of the firstborn. To be saved, the Israelites killed a lamb and put its blood on their doorposts. Death “passed over” them.
This is a picture of Christ! Jesus is our “Passover lamb,” who died in our place. His blood applied to us saves us from eternal death.
This Easter, take time to thank God for the Passover lamb, slain and raised again for us.
