In the soil beneath our feet live millions of tiny earthworms. The worms help make plant life possible. The average acre of soil contains over three million earthworms!

Earthworms swallow huge amounts of soil and digest nutrients from it. This process helps to oxygenate, fertilize, and loosen up the soil for plants. Their waste helps to transport minerals and nutrients for plants.

It also helps to decompose litter—like fallen leaves in the fall. Earthworms will drag around 90 percent of these leaves into the soil so the nutrients can be reused.

Indeed, in the earthworm, God has provided Earth with an efficient system of enriching the soil. Even the lowly worm proclaims the Creator’s glory!
