The gravitational pull of the moon creates a “tidal bulge” on earth. Now this causes the moon to spiral slowly outwards . . . away from us. Bottom line: in the past the moon was closer to us than it is now.
If you believe in billions of years, this is a big problem. Less than one and a half billion years ago, the moon would have been touching the earth. But if the moon were even remotely that close, gravity would have shattered it. In this view, we shouldn’t still have our moon. It should either have long drifted away . . . or it should have shattered.
But the Bible says God created the moon on Day Four of Creation . . . just a few thousand years ago. In this time, the moon has only moved about 800 feet.
The moon is young!
