How can footprints be preserved? That’s a question we should be asking after a recent discovery in Texas, made possible by low water levels. Soaring temperatures and drought conditions are exposing features that have been buried beneath water and mud for years—including a trackway of 70 previously unknown dinosaur footprints in the riverbed of the Paluxy River in Dinosaur Valley State Park.
Now that name—Paluxy River—might be familiar to you (more on that in a moment) as this area is well-known for dinosaur footprints. These 70 new prints are believed by evolutionists to be 110 million years old and to have likely been made by
the Acrocanthosaurus, a massive dinosaur towering at 15 feet and weighing nearly seven tons. Alongside these tracks, there are imprints resembling those of a Sauropodseiden, commonly referred to as a Paluxysaurus, an enormous creature that reached towering heights of 60 feet and weighed an astonishing 44 tons.
To preserve something as fragile as a footprint (consider how quickly footprints disappear!), it must be buried very quickly.
Now, how can dinosaur footprints be preserved? Well, to preserve something as fragile as a footprint (consider how quickly footprints disappear!), it must be buried very quickly. This does not suggest the slow and gradual processes that evolutionists assume. Rather, it points to something catastrophic—and the Bible gives the answer!
During the global flood of Noah’s day, the rising and falling waters would have deposited massive amounts of sediment, trapping and burying creatures and even their footprints, burrows, feces, etc. very quickly. This flood created the perfect conditions to form billions of fossils all around the world—including in what is now the Paluxy River in Texas.
Back to my statement that the Paluxy River may sound familiar. Well, I still hear the claim from time to time that human and dinosaur footprints were discovered together in the Paluxy River, thus confirming that humans and dinosaurs lived together. Now, such a find would be very exciting and a confirmation of what we’d expect starting with God’s Word, but the evidence for this is shaky and can’t be verified to our satisfaction, so we certainly don’t suggest that creationists use this argument—there are far better arguments for the truth of God’s Word!
But do we need a “silver bullet” like human and dino tracks together to “prove” the Bible is true? No, God’s Word is sufficient—and the billions and billions of dead things buried in rock layers laid down by water all over the earth already cry out as evidence for the truth of God’s Word and the Genesis flood. The problem isn’t a lack of evidence (remember people saw Jesus heal and raise the dead and still didn’t believe in him), the problem is hard hearts that suppress the truth about God.
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. (Romans 1:18–20)
As we share truth with others and defend the Christian faith with good arguments, let’s never forget to pray that God will open the spiritual eyes of unbelievers so they can accept the truth of his Word and the gospel.
