During research expeditions in 2017 and 2018, a “perfectly preserved” cave lion cub was found in the Siberian permafrost by scientific researchers working alongside mammoth tusk hunters. The cub was “less than two months old when she died, [and] was found covered in golden fur and even had teeth, skin, soft tissue and whiskers still intact.” Researchers believe she must have been rapidly buried in a mudslide to preserve her with such detail.
That flood triggered the ice age—when this cave lion, a member of the cat kind, would have lived—and she was probably buried by a mudslide as the ice age declined.
The cub was dated at 28,000 years old and was found near another cub (a male) of the same age but dated at 43,000 years old. But are these cubs really separated by 15,000 years? Of course not. Such a timeline contradicts what we know about history from God’s Word. Starting with God’s Word, we know creation was 6,000 years ago and the global flood was around 4,350 years ago. That flood triggered the ice age—when this cave lion, a member of the cat kind, would have lived—and she was probably buried by a mudslide as the ice age declined.
But what about the 28,000- and 43,000-year dates? Well, according to the article, those dates come from radiocarbon dating. But that’s a problem—past a few thousand years, radiocarbon dating isn’t accurate. Radiocarbon (also called carbon-14) dating is used to date once-living things (such as these lion cubs) and is often believed to be reliable back to about 50,000 years. But carbon-14 dating is based on a huge assumption—the ratio of C-14 atoms and C-12 atoms in the atmosphere has always been the same. But we have no way of knowing that! You can learn more about radiocarbon dating in this article.
These amazingly preserved lion cubs remind us that catastrophes—in this case, post-flood, ice age catastrophes—rapidly bury and preserve creatures. It doesn’t take long ages; it takes a catastrophe.

Was the miracle of Jesus feeding the 5,000 with just five loaves and two fish a little less than miraculous?
