God Created “Male and Female,” Not Transgender

A Message for President Obama

by Ken Ham on May 14, 2016

Once again, in a flagrant disregard for those who believe and strive to obey the Bible, President Obama is attempting to impose his anti-God worldview regarding gender on America. Displaying a total disregard for Christians who stand on God’s Word, President Obama’s administration recently gave school districts across the country its supposed “guidance” on transgender access to bathrooms, locker rooms, and more. But this guidance is really more like a directive than mere advice!

Gender

As one reporter suggested, the White House may claim to have given this directive to “help school districts avoid running afoul of civil rights laws.” But it appears that what the executive branch is really doing is sending a loud message that schools that “discriminate against transgender students” could risk losing their federal funding. Title IX, a federal law passed in 1972, prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex. Now the federal government—really President Obama acting as the lawgiver of the federal government—is now arbitrarily redefining sex to include gender identity. And school districts that don’t agree with his interpretation may face the loss of federal funds, as will any school that doesn’t comply with Title IX. Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick refers to this directive as “blackmail” from the president and, alluding to the price Judas received to betray Jesus (Matthew 26:15), says, “he can keep his 30 pieces of silver.”

President Obama is trying to make gender a civil rights issue, whereas it is actually a moral issue. You can’t genetically change the shade of one’s skin or the shape of eyes, but a person can change behavior! And we need to judge our behavior against the absolute authority of the Word of God. Regarding sexuality in humans, God states clearly:

. . . male and female He created them. (Genesis 1:27)
He created them male and female . . . . (Genesis 5:2)
[Jesus said,] “But from the beginning of the creation, God ‘made them male and female.’” (Mark 10:6)
[Jesus said,] “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female.’” (Matthew 19:4)

The guidelines from President Obama’s administration reportedly include such things as allowing transgender students—or really those who claim they are transgender—to use the bathroom and locker room consistent with the gender identity they believe they are, as well as school administrators having to use the pronouns the student prefers.

From a Christian perspective, because we know the “the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked” (Jeremiah 17:9), we recognize that there will be those who will use this new situation to try to fulfill their own sinful lustful desires. This has created a dangerous situation as there’s no doubt sexual predators will use this development to their full advantage. I predict that sexually perverse situations will occur—it’s unavoidable. President Obama will never understand this, of course, until he acknowledges the sinful nature of man.

The issue of transgender individuals isn’t going away anytime soon—it may only become more prominent in our society. Really, it’s just one symptom of the fierce spiritual battle that is raging in America. A secular mindset is increasingly capturing the hearts and minds of our young people and they are being deceived into believing that morality—and gender—can be whatever they want it to be. Without the foundation of the absolute authority of God’s Word, America is adrift in a sea of moral relativism where man makes the rules and determines “truth.”

The Bible provides the only true foundation for our thinking. Starting with God’s Word, we know that gender was created by God and that people were created “male and female” (Genesis 1:26–27) from the beginning. Of course, sin has affected everything, including gender, and, as a result, some people have a real struggle with gender identity. We need to have compassion for these individuals. But that doesn’t mean we should accept and embrace sinful behaviors and choices! It means that we lovingly and gently expose sin and share the life-changing message of the gospel of Jesus Christ with all people.

And it’s important to remember this comforting Scripture:

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. (1 Corinthians 10:13)

What people need is not accommodation of a sinful lifestyle. They need the gospel of Jesus Christ! They need to become a new creation:

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. (1 Corinthians 6:9–11
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

And we as believers need to be equipped with solid, biblical answers to meekly and gently engage the culture for Christ.

Sadly, what is happening in America is that President Obama is using the government to impose a state religion on the church—a religion that can be summed up this way:

In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes. (Judges 21:25).

As I have stated before in my blog, that passage sums up what happens when there is no human authority to enforce what is right and wrong according to God’s Word, and this state religion that is being imposed by President Obama is a man-centered religion—the religion of humanism that worships the god of self.

President Obama has obviously rejected the absolute authority of the King of Creation, and instead is imposing his own views of morality on the culture, based on fallible human opinion—whatever is right in his own eyes. He doesn’t simply want certain supposed rights for those who claim the identify of transgender, but he wants to force everyone else to agree with this sinful lifestyle.
