Pride, Wickedness, and Babylon

Babylon is often used in Scripture as a metaphor for the evil world system that opposes God. Such a system is replete with corruption, sexual immorality, and idolatry—to name just some of the wickedness. And when you list many of the characteristics of Babylon, you could almost be describing America (and, in fact, the entire Western world) today. Characteristics like:

  • Highly regards “wisdom” and knowledge
  • Possesses lots of information, but the culture is not based on the fear of the Lord as the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10)
  • Worships creature rather than Creator (Romans 1:25)
  • Has many gods
  • Very religious
  • Rampant sexual immorality
  • Idolatrous forms of consumerism/materialism/luxuriant living
  • Marked by pride and rebellion

But in some ways, I think the US is even worse than Babylon. There’s no documented evidence Babylon carried out child sacrifice—but in America, child sacrifice (in the form of abortion) is rampant, resulting in the death of millions upon millions of children. The child sacrifices of the Canaanites and Mayans pale in comparison. America and the Western world have become dominated by evil and the resulting moral relativism.

June is a month when, sadly, many people in America (and other countries) celebrate the wickedness of Babylon—a wickedness that probably surpasses that of Sodom and Gomorrah. Interestingly enough, this celebration of the wickedness of sexual immorality is referred to as “Pride month”!

Hear how Scripture speaks of the wickedness of a Babylonian culture and what the ultimate end of this Babylonian-type wickedness will be:

All nations have drunk the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality. (Revelation 18:3)

I will punish the world for its evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; I will put an end to the pomp of the arrogant, and lay low the pompous pride of the ruthless. (Isaiah 13:11)

And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the splendor and pomp of the Chaldeans, will be like Sodom and Gomorrah when God overthrew them. (Isaiah 13:19)

June will see an increased celebration of sexual immorality marked by man’s pride, but be assured that one day God will judge this blatant war against himself like he judged Babylon and brought it down.

And for those churches and Christians who are going soft on LGBTQ+ (gay “marriage,” transgenderism, etc.) and compromising with Babylon instead of standing uncompromisingly on God’s Word beginning in Genesis, I advise you to heed God’s warning:

Come out of her, my people, lest you take part in her sins. (Revelation 18:4)

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
Ken
