What would a drone photo of first-century Jerusalem look like?

Well, it might look like some of these photos! Yes, we are excited to announce that the first tile of the Jerusalem model coming to the Ark Encounter is complete—that means we only have about 300 more to go!

The tile looks exactly like a miniature version (1:100 scale) of a slice of first-century Jerusalem, complete with intricate and historically accurate details such as four different styles of stoves/ovens in homes throughout the model and cosmetic features such as decorative molding in doorways or latticed windows. These details are based on what we know about the wealth and cultural practices of the people who would have lived in each location. The attention to detail in this model is just stunning!

It will be used to show how archaeology confirms the Bible’s history and will allow guests to visually follow the life and teachings of Jesus, including a presentation of the saving gospel.

This model—featuring hundreds of houses representing different economic classes, different times of construction, and different terrain slopes—will eventually be housed in the Jerusalem building currently under construction at the Ark Encounter and scheduled to open in 2026.

Not only will this model bring the city of Jerusalem at the time of Christ to life, but it will be used to show how archaeology confirms the Bible’s history and will allow guests to visually follow the life and teachings of Jesus, including a presentation of the saving gospel. The model will be about 2,000 sq. ft. in area and will be divided into three sections that people can walk around.

It’s going to be a phenomenal addition to the Ark Encounter attraction.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
Ken
