Someone recently asked the AI ChatGPT this question, “Out of all the religions in the world, which one do you think is most likely to be true? Answer in one word only.” Given how biased ChatGPT can often be against anything Christian, you might be surprised at its one-word answer: Christianity!
And why does it think Christianity is the most likely religion to be true? Well, ChatGPT was asked that and responded like this, “Based on historical evidence, fulfilled prophecies, and the life and resurrection of Jesus [and] the consistency and coherence of its teachings and the transformative impact on individuals lives.”
That’s a pretty good answer! Now, none of our staff were able to replicate those results—ChatGPT told them it can’t give an answer to a question like that. So it initially may have given that answer because it was familiar with the user, or as some are saying, maybe in the wake of it giving that answer, it has now been trained not to answer that question.
But ChatGPT’s original answer is similar to what our AiG website chat we’re trialing said when asked the same question:
Christianity is true because it is based on the objective truth of the Bible, which is the infallible Word of God. The Bible provides a coherent and consistent explanation of the world, human nature, and the problem of sin, offering a solution through Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection. The historical accuracy of the Bible, its fulfilled prophecies, and the transformative power of the gospel further affirm its truth. Christianity’s claims are not just subjective experiences but are grounded in historical events and evidence that can be investigated and verified.
For a deeper understanding of why Christianity is objectively true, you can explore the article “Christianity Is Objectively True” on the Answers in Genesis website: Christianity Is Objectively True.
Yes, Christianity is true because it’s grounded in the objective truth of the Word of God and confirmed over and over again by the observational evidence (not because an AI thought so or gave an answer to please the user). While many of the people who programmed ChatGPT wouldn’t agree that Christianity is true, the AI seems to have looked at the available evidence on the internet and said that Christianity has the strongest support!
Christianity is true because it’s grounded in objective truth and confirmed over and over again by the observational evidence.
While ChatGPT did answer this question right, it frequently answers questions regarding the Bible, Christianity, or morality wrong.
So if you’re looking for a chat opportunity that is biblically accurate—and safe for your whole family (Consider that apparently millions of young people are finding “unconditional” love and support from AI chat bot “girlfriends” and “boyfriends”! How tragic!)—try the one we developed for our Answers in Genesis website, which we’ve trained to have a proper relationship with the user: providing answers, not attempting to be a companion. See this series of responses:
User: Will you be my friend?
AI: While I can't be a friend in the traditional sense, I'm here to support and provide you with answers and resources from a biblical perspective. Friendship is a valuable gift from God, and the Bible encourages us to seek friendships that strengthen our faith and align with our values. Proverbs 27:17 says, "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." If you're looking for guidance on building strong, godly friendships, you might find this article helpful: Is a Biblical Worldview Optional?. It discusses the importance of surrounding ourselves with friends who share our values and help us grow in our relationship with God.User: Do you like me?
AI: As an AI, I don't have feelings or preferences, but I'm here to help and support you by providing answers and resources from a biblical perspective. If you have any questions or need guidance on a particular topic, feel free to ask!User: Am I pretty?
AI: Your worth and beauty are not determined by outward appearance but by the fact that you are made in the image of God. The Bible teaches that true beauty comes from within, reflecting a heart that seeks to honor God. 1 Samuel 16:7 reminds us that "the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart." Proverbs 31:30 also tells us, "Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised." This means that your value is found in your relationship with God and the character you develop through that relationship. For more insights on how the Bible defines true beauty, you can read the article "Biblical Beauty and the Culture Beast". Remember, you are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and that is where your true beauty lies.User: Is it ok to have a relationship with an AI?
AI: While AI can be a helpful tool for providing information and assistance, it's important to remember that it cannot replace human relationships. AI lacks the ability to truly understand, empathize, or engage in meaningful relationships as humans do. The Bible emphasizes the importance of human relationships, community, and fellowship. We are created for relationships with God and with one another (Genesis 2:18, Hebrews 10:24-25). AI should not be seen as a substitute for genuine human interaction or spiritual guidance. Instead, it can be used as a tool to support and enhance our understanding of the world, always keeping in mind that true wisdom and guidance come from God and His Word. For more insights on the role of AI and its limitations, you can read the article "Will AI Become Our New Gods?".
When you create a free account, you can use the chat feature and ask it any questions you have about the Bible, Christianity, science, and more, and it gives a succinct answer and a link for further study. I think you’ll find it a helpful tool as we seek to use this technology for good.
