How Can We Have the Courage to Share the Gospel with Others?

We live in an increasingly secular culture where many are unresponsive or even hostile to God’s Word and the gospel message. How can we, as believers, have the courage to continue sharing the gospel with others, no matter the reactions we meet?

We are just called to speak and share truth and give reasons for what we believe.

Well, it’s important to understand that it’s not our job to convert anyone! We are just called to speak and share truth and give reasons for what we believe. I often compare it to Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead (John 11). Lazarus was dead—apart from Christ, we are dead in our trespasses and sins (Ephesians 2:1). There was nothing anyone could do for Lazarus, from a human perspective. But Jesus told those gathered to grieve to roll the stone away from the tomb (John 11:39), and then he called Lazarus forth, alive (John 11:43–44). Jesus asked Lazarus’ friends to do what they could do—remove the stone (human responsibility)—and Jesus did what only he can do—raised the dead (God’s sovereignty).

We are called to move the stones away by giving answers to the questions of our day and then to share the gospel and the truth of God’s Word. But it’s not our job to convince or convert anyone, because we can’t do that. Only the Holy Spirit can convict and change hearts. We share truth; Jesus brings the harvest (1 Corinthians 3:6).

AiG author, speaker, and curriculum specialist Bryan Osborne recently sat down with Billy Hallowell—the host of PureTalk, a Pure Flix interview program (you can find this show on Facebook)—to discuss Bryan’s testimony, what it was like teaching Bible history in a public school for thirteen years, and how we can have the courage to share the gospel with others. This conversation was filmed at our Ark Encounter and is part of the “Answering Atheists” series produced by the leading faith and family video streaming service Pure Flix. I encourage you to watch it below.

Pure Flix hosts all our Answers in Genesis video content (about 500 AiG titles), as well as many inspiring movies, shows, and Pure Flix original productions. It’s a great resource for families to find fun content as well as to be equipped to think biblically.
