Equipping Future Generations to Withstand Hostility

by Ken Ham on May 1, 2016

I love speaking to children about the truth of God’s Word. Often, when I’m at churches or doing conferences, I will have special kids sessions to teach them about dinosaurs, science, God’s Word, and the gospel. Their enthusiasm is always contagious. And it’s always wonderful to hear from people who heard me speaking (when I still had brown hair!) when they were children and to know that what they learned is still impacting them today. Teaching children to trust God’s Word from a young age makes a difference!

Here is an email from someone who heard me speak when he was nine years old.

Back when I was around 9 years old (24 years-ish . . . ago), Ken Ham/Answers in Genesis came and spoke. We volunteered to help run the conference, and I heard such sound teaching of God's message and seeking truth that it just stirred my heart even at such a young age. I was so happy because my Dad brought me to the front of the auditorium where I was able to actually ask some questions to the speakers.

I really appreciated what your ministry has done and is still doing. I just wanted to send out a thank you of how much what you do really impacts. It firmed my faith so young.

Sadly, our freedom in the Western world to openly share what we believe is increasingly being hampered. Christians are often disciplined or punished for living out, or even publically expressing, their deeply held beliefs based on God’s Word. We recently received a testimony from one supporter, showing how this growing hostility has affected her.

There are lots of media stories lately about how Christians are discriminating against non-Christians, etc., so I would like to share with you what has happened to me. I am a Bible-believing Christian. I believe God created in 6 days just as the Bible teaches, and sometimes I go on the Richard Dawkins website where I have had some very interesting debates about evolution and creation.

I went into work today, I work in a school, and my boss had received an email from one of the people I've been debating . . . saying basically I shouldn't have the views I have and that my views are anti-science, etc. Obviously this has upset me because my boss has said I really shouldn't be debating online. I thought you would like to know that Christians are being persecuted in the workplace.

As our Western culture continues to drift further and further from God’s Word, we can only expect increased intolerance and hostility toward those who stand on God’s Word. Many secularists are trying to stop Christians from freely exercising their religion. But we need to remain committed to our starting point—the infallible, unchanging Word of God as we boldly share the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

And as the hostility and intolerance increase, we need to be dedicated to training up the next generation to love the Word of God and to stand boldly on the truth and authority of the Scriptures. You can equip your family with solid answers using the many resources we have available on our website and in our online store. I encourage you to use these resources to help you “train up a child in the way he should go” (Proverbs 22:6).

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
Ken
