A new graphic novel, reportedly the “first graphic novel about abortion,” apparently illustrates “two women going through the ‘abortion process.’” Supposedly it is an “often funny,” and “even humorous look at what a woman can go through during an abortion.” Reportedly the description of the book heavily emphasized the idea that the book was humorous. Interestingly enough this graphic novel about abortion apparently doesn’t even show the actual abortion—it doesn’t even show a baby on the ultrasound screen monitor! Why not? Well, presumably it’s because in reality, abortion—the murder of a baby inside of his or her mother’s womb—is simply not funny.
This book is obviously trying to avoid the reality that abortion is murder. By not ever showing even the ultrasound, let alone the abortion, the book is downplaying both the reality that it is a real baby inside the womb and the reality that abortion violently destroys that life.
The reported emphasis of this graphic novel on the non-existent “funny” and “humorous” side of abortion shows the callousness of the author toward human life. Perhaps the author should try writing a graphic novel about abortion from the baby’s (the person made in God’s image) point of view—I guarantee you she won’t find any humor there! There’s nothing funny about violently murdering someone.
This book is a sad testament to the callousness of a nation that will not only legalize the murder of unborn babies but will celebrate and laugh over it. Fifty-five million children have been aborted in America since Roe v. Wade—55 million! That is something that should make us weep for each one of those children was fearfully and wonderfully made in God’s own image. Every single life is precious and deserves to be protected—born or unborn.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. (Psalm 139:14)
