“A Good Man Leaves an Inheritance”

by Ken Ham on June 21, 2015

A verse for fathers to ponder this morning:

A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children. (Proverbs 13:22)

My father (who went to be with the Lord 20 years ago this month) provided for his wife and children with material needs. And they used whatever they could to enable people to hear the truth of God's Word and the gospel. Even though my parents never had much in the way of material resources, the “inheritance” I praise and thank the Lord that my father passed on to his children something priceless—that “spiritual inheritance” that is more valuable than any material wealth could be.

I like to use the word “legacy.” Really, the ministries of Answers in Genesis, the Creation Museum, and the coming Ark Encounter are the legacy of parents who taught their children to stand boldly, unashamedly, and uncompromisingly on the authority of the Word of God.

Sadly, our latest research (to be released in a new book this coming September) shows clearly we are losing the 20-somethings generation from the church, and many of those still in the church have a very worldly worldview.

Dads, what legacy are you leaving your children? Who has the most influence on developing their worldview? Is it a secular teacher in a public school, their friends, or is it their parents and particularly their dad as the spiritual head of the home?

A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children. (Proverbs 13:22)

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
Ken
