Families Gather to Celebrate Bible Bee

by Ken Ham on August 21, 2014

In a culture that seems overflowing with opportunities to undermine our children’s trust in the Bible, it is extremely important to give our children a strong foundation in the truth of God's Word. We must equip them with answers to “always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear” (1 Peter 3:15). One of the ways parent can instill biblical principles in their children is through the National Bible Bee.

You might recall that earlier this year I encouraged you to become involved in the National Bible Bee family discipleship program. Well, if you did, you know that families across the country have spent the last 12 weeks studying through the book of Jonah—learning some Hebrew and Greek words and using various study tools, looking at cross references that describe God’s character, and learning how to study the Bible. On top of that, they have been memorizing passages of Scripture and growing together as families in God’s Word.

On August 23, local groups will gather together to celebrate all of their work through the summer and to test their knowledge of the materials they studied (called the Sword Study). The students will have shared the verses they have memorized by quoting them to friends and neighbors, and on Saturday (8/23) they will take a written test. As an award for those who have studied hard, the top 120 students in the three age categories will be invited to the National Bible Bee contest to be held in Orlando, Flordia, in late October.

I am glad to be part of the Bible Bee’s board of advisors and to support this ministry that teaches families to stand on the authority of God’s Word, and AiG is happy to provide prizes for the national contest participants and winners. We will also have a booth promoting the Creation Museum at the national contest in October to encourage families and youth groups to visit the museum to continue learning how to defend their faith.

I urge you to pray for the Bible Bee ministry and all of the families involved in the contest this weekend, and consider using their materials as you disciple your family.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,

Ken
