Earlier last month, the United Nations announced that it will now recognize the same-sex “marriages” of its staffers at the UN, UNESCO, UNICEF, and its other agencies. Up to now, the UN would only recognize gay “marriages” if the staffers came from countries where such unions were legal. The new change means that same-sex couples just have to marry in a country where it’s legal.
According to a report from the Associated Press, the policy also affects employees’ benefits:
The change means gay spouses of U.N. employees can get health insurance coverage and the chance to accompany spouses on their home leave every couple of years, among other benefits. Now, Ban Ki-moon, the secretary general of the UN and an avid gay rights supporter, has been one of the leaders at the UN in promoting the acceptance of homosexual behavior and transgenderism. The UN has an unofficial day called the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, celebrated on May 17.
As part of last year’s celebration, the UN released a video called “The Riddle,” which promoted the normalcy of homosexual and transgender behavior. Roger Patterson and Steve Golden, staff members at Answers in Genesis, wrote an article on “The Riddle.”
“The Riddle” called for equality and tolerance for sinful behaviors—behaviors that even religions other than Christianity deem offensive! So you see, this recent change in policy to recognize same-sex marriages is really not a surprise. It’s just another attempt by Ban Ki-moon and the UN to try to normalize homosexual behavior. Once again, the hypocrisy of calling for equality and tolerance yet not call for tolerance of those of us who believe in the truth of Romans 1:26–27, 1 Corinthians 6:9–11, 1 Timothy 1:9–10, or Jude 7 is evident.
Since I am a Bible-believing Christian, it is not a shock to me when non-Christian, humanistic, “all-religions-are-equal” groups like the United Nations continue to promote immoral lifestyles. But as I’ve repeatedly pointed out in my posts and public talks, as more and more individuals continue to reject the Bible as the ultimate standard for truth and morality, we will continue to see an increase in lawlessness, abortion, homosexual behavior, pornography, and other forms of immoral behavior.
Now, some countries and their people are treating those who practice homosexual behavior with brutality and violence. As Christians we must acknowledge that any brutality—verbal or physical—directed at one individual from another is wrong, because man is made in the image of God (Genesis 1:26; 9:6). We at AiG don’t support this sort of behavior because it is unbiblical treatment of someone made in God’s image. The only basis for human dignity is that man is made in the image of God. Neither the UN nor any other organization can provide that basis apart from the Bible, which explains why a relativistic morality with no real basis for final authority often ends in support of sins like abortion, homosexual behavior, pornography, etc. Humans do not have the authority to assign rights as they wish—rights come only from God.
Do you see why a belief in a literal Genesis is so important? If God made us, He sets the rules. Throw out the Creator, and right and wrong are in the eye of the beholder. It often ends up like the last verse in the book of Judges: “everyone did what was right in his own eyes” (Judges 21:25).
I believe we’re going to see even more of the kinds of worldly ideas that Ban Ki-moon is promoting in our culture. Same-sex marriage is becoming by and large acceptable in our culture. But Scripture provides a clear answer to this issue: homosexual behavior is not part of God’s design in creation, and it’s never acceptable among Christians. The Apostle Paul made it clear that the only hope for people is in submitting to God and being washed clean by Christ:
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. (1 Corinthians 6:9–11)I realize that some people may be weary of continually addressing the cultural degradation we see all around us. But I earnestly implore Christians to WAKE UP. While many churches sit idly by and some spew amateur psychology from the pulpits instead of preaching the truth of the Word of God from the very first verse, our society is descending further and further into perversion. Christian, stand on biblical authority. Teach the biblical foundation for doctrine found in Genesis 1–11. Warn the lost and proclaim the gospel.
And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed (Romans 13:11).Real hope for peace and righteousness in this world is not found in the United Nations, but in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Prince of peace—who is also the WORD.
Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
