Answers in Genesis is careful in lending its name and support of other organizations. We first get to know their leaders, mission, and high regard for biblical authority. Our friends at the National Bible Bee have earned our support.
The National Bible Bee is primarily a summer discipleship program for families, which is designed to share the Word of God with children. That includes Bible memorization and prayer. This program also leads to some competitive events, where children and teens (from ages 7–18) take part in local contests around America—this time on August 27 (with the national finals competition held in November).
The local competitions are for young people who have spent a lot of time in Bible study and Scripture memorization. It’s all done in the context of families studying the Word of God together. Of the 300 top-scoring contestants from the August 27 local competitions, they are invited to the national competition held on November 16–19 in Nashville, Tennessee. There are scholarships and cash prizes to be awarded.
Organizers of the Bible Bee have shared with me that while they strongly encourage the memorization of Scripture, they don’t want the competition to be just an exercise in “rote” memorization. Contestants are also tested on their comprehension of the verses. When families register their young person with their $30 fee, the student receives a Bible study, Bible memory cards, a Bible, and a T-shirt. Registration is now open through May 31 at www.biblebee.org.
Also, the Bible Bee is looking for more local hosts for contests in their communities. You can go to www.biblebee.org for information on that.
I hope you will have a blessed Sunday as you and your church commemorate our risen Savior. I leave you with these verses:
And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. (Matthew 27:29–30)Enduring the driving of those large thorns of the crown, the Lord Jesus Christ was the ultimate “good soldier” who suffered for our sins to pay our redemption.
Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
Ken
