For those of you that enjoy the thrill of debate, I encourage you to attend Debate Summit 2010 at Grace Community Church in Washington Court House, Ohio, on March 12 and 13. I genuinely appreciate the skill it takes to debate intelligently and think fast on your feet, and these debates will not disappoint!
The first debate will feature Pastor Jay Lucas, author of a very practical book on presuppositional apologetics called Ask Them Why, and Dr. Ed Buckner, president of American Atheists. They will debate the topic “Moral Foundations: Which Makes More Sense, Christianity or Atheism?”
The second debate will feature Dr. Andy McIntosh, professor of thermodynamics and combustion theory at Leeds University, UK, and Dr. Will Provine, professor of biology at Cornell University. They will debate the topic “Flight in Birds and Bats: Is Evolution or Creation the Best Guide?” We sell a DVD entitled the Intricacies of Flight by Dr. McIntosh. You may remember Dr. Provine from the Ben Stein movie Expelled.
The third debate will feature Dr. Dennis Sullivan, professor of biology and director of the Center for Bioethics at Cedarville University, and Dr. Provine. They will debate the topic “Free Will: Does It Exist? Does It Matter?” Dr. Sullivan is a friend of mine and mentored me when I first began teaching anatomy and physiology as a college professor.
Our own Dr. David Menton will be speaking at the church on Sunday and giving his fascinating presentation entitled “Fearfully and Wonderfully Made.” The debate organizers have a website that includes a blog about the event and ticket information. I will be there, and I hope to see many of my readers there as well. My husband’s family is from the area, and his grandparents attended Grace Community Church—it’s a small world.
