Happy Thanksgiving from all of us here at Answers VBS!

We have so much to be thankful for, and you will likely be sharing some of those things around your dinner table tonight. As you do, spend some time talking about God and who he is by listing some of his attributes. These attributes define who God is. He’s not like the gods of other religions who demand that we are good enough to earn their favor. We should be thankful for who our God is!

Here are just five of God’s attributes that remind us who the one true God is:

  • God is great—he is awe-inspiring and worthy of our praise and adoration. There’s no one like our God!
  • God is almighty—he is all knowing, all powerful, and all present.
  • God is ruler—he is the majestic King, who is holy and perfect. He is not a capricious or petty God, as the false gods of ancient times. He is the definition and standard of holiness.
  • God is Emmanuel—he is “God with us.” Even though God is the great Creator and the holy, majestic King, he stepped into history as a man to live a perfect life and die in our place, rising from the grave to accomplish our salvation. He’s not far off and mysterious. He’s knowable in the person of Jesus Christ.
  • God is trustworthy—we can trust him with our lives because he is good and is our rock.
Children must have a high view of God and understand that we know who God is because he has revealed himself to us in his Word.

Do those attributes sound familiar? They are the attributes of God that children will be exploring with Mystery Island VBS! Children must have a high view of God and understand that we know who God is because he has revealed himself to us in his Word.

Today, as you give thanks, take some time to go through the alphabet and list an attribute of God that begins with each letter. Or each person can say an attribute that starts with the first letter of their name. God is infinite, so his attributes have no end!
