It only takes a spark
To get a fire going,
And soon all those around
Will warm up to its glowing.
That’s how it is with God’s love
Once you’ve experienced it;
You spread his love to everyone;
You want to pass it on.“Pass it On” Kurt Kaiser
In 2018, we all have the opportunity to light sparks and see the flame of the gospel go forth. What will your spark look like? Will it look like the Andersons’ spark?
We “met” Tim and Maria Anderson via email in 2016. They wrote to tell us that they had seen our first two videos and cheered us on to keep working for the eternal things of the Lord. Email notes like the Anderson’s are good reminders for us that our work is not in vain.
The Wild Brother videos were meeting our family goal of encouraging other brothers and sisters in the Lord. The Andersons are an active, working part of the body of Christ. After looking into New Tribes Mission (now Ethnos360) and Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF), they found a way to be a part of world missions and are continuing to do it even now.
Read this email we received last year:
Hello, Mike and Elizabeth!
You don't know me, but I was in [confidential] as a nurse with the [confidential] Clinic in 2012 and God is leading me to return to [confidential] this coming summer.
I am writing with a kind of crazy story and to thank your sons for their ministry through their videos. I am currently just beginning my Ministry Partnership Development in hopes of arriving in [confidential] by the end of this coming July. I had a new donor on my account this month—Tim and Maria Anderson . . . . Because I didn't recognize the name or the address, I called them up to thank them for their gift and ask how they had come to hear about NTM.
Maria said that their grandson loves the Wild Brothers videos, and they've enjoyed watching them with him. She and her husband got curious one day about the ministry in [confidential] and looked up the Wild brothers on the Answers in Genesis website. From there they looked up New Tribes and missionaries in the country of [confidential]. Maria said that "one thing kind of led to another," and they began praying about which missionaries in [confidential] God would have them give to. They go through the list and send a one-time gift to whomever God lays on their hearts. Maria said that they've always been interested in missionary work overseas but never felt led to go themselves, so they just "help out" where they can.
Their gift and story was just the encouragement I needed this week. Because of your sons' videos, this couple is now learning about . . . NTM, and giving to other missionaries. Thank you so much for the gift of yourselves and your time in those videos! God's using it in unexpected ways!
Many missionaries and mission agencies are self-funded, and giving is a great way to be a spark this year!
