It’s really important wherever we are to always put others before ourselves, whether it’s the girl at Walmart or the guy at Subway or your neighbor or basically anyone we’re around.
For a while my dad had to instruct me to put others before myself in everyday life.
Philippians 2:3–4 says, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”
The Bible also tells us to treat others how we would like them to treat us; so if we want people to put us before themselves, then we should do the same.
As Christians this is one of our jobs, so I’ve been trying really hard every day to put others before myself, like not being the first one to get in line when a meal is prepared, not getting the best seat in the car, not getting the biggest piece of dessert, not grabbing the best fishing pole, and lots of other things.
Now I find great joy when putting others before myself. It reminds me of the verse in the Bible that says it’s more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35). So wherever and whenever you can, always put others before yourself. Nobody’s perfect. I still have lots of things to improve on, and putting others before myself is just one of them. As I continue my walk with the Lord, I hope to continue to put others before myself.
