If you’re an unborn baby (a child) or are elderly or terminally ill, you may want to stay out of California! Abortions are free on public college campuses, and assisted suicide is legal in that state. But if you’re a dog or a cat (unlikely if you’re reading my blog!), head west because California’s governor, Gavin Newsom, is spending $50 million in an attempt to make his a “no-kill state.” But not for people—for dogs and cats.
According to reports, the money will be allocated to “helping local communities ‘achieve the state’s policy goal that no adoptable or treatable dog or cat should be euthanized.’” Now, we certainly have a responsibility to care for creation (e.g., Genesis 1:26–28, Proverbs 12:10), including dogs and cats, and wisdom and care should be exercised towards these creatures. But this is an example of the glaring hypocrisy of lawmakers in California who don’t want to see a single healthy dog or cat euthanized, but they are more than happy to give students free abortions (murder of children in the womb), resist Christian adoption agencies, and legalize the killing of the terminally ill. To them, clearly, animals have more value than unborn children or people who are terminally ill!
If we’re just animals, then humans have no unique or intrinsic value—certainly no more value than a dog or a cat.
This action is a natural consequence of the secular worldview. If we’re just animals, then humans have no unique or intrinsic value—certainly no more value than a dog or a cat. So why not value the lives of cute, cuddly critters over “inconvenient” babies and sick people? It’s appalling, but it’s where our culture has gone without a biblical worldview to keep it safely moored on truth. What is happening in California and elsewhere is consistent with those who reject God’s Word and worship the creature more than the Creator (Romans 1).
When we start with God’s Word, we have an entirely different picture. Humans alone are made in God’s image (Genesis 1:27). We have a unique value and worth, not because we’ve been born, “wanted,” healthy, or able to contribute to society. We have value because we bear the image of our Creator—something a dog or cat can never have. Only humans are made in the image of God.

Mike Johnson recently issued a statement saying, “All single-sex facilities in the Capitol and House Office Buildings . . . are reserved for individuals of that biological sex.”
A recent article highlighted several features of the Grand Canyon’s Tonto Group that sound rather like there was a global flood as described in Genesis!
