Beware of names. For example, Separate but Equal in the US was anything but equal. The Affordable Healthcare Act was anything but affordable. So, should the Fairness for All Act as proposed by the US Congress be taken at face value? Actually, it is another attack on biblical Christianity.
The controversial piece of legislation known as “Fairness for All,” which was recently introduced by a Republican congressman, has been called a “compromise” between LGBT groups and activists and those who have religious liberty considerations. This legislation would make sexual orientation and gender identity protected classes under the federal Civil Rights Act but would supposedly carve out exemptions for religious institutions and non-profits. But is it fair for all?
Well, this legislation provides exemptions (for now) for religious institutions and non-profits. But what about Christians in the business world? Florists? Wedding photographers? Wedding cake bakers? What protections are they afforded to be able to live out their faith in the public sphere? None. It’s certainly not “fair” for them! And besides, once the door is opened, even with supposed exemptions, experience tells us it’s only a matter of time before those exemptions are lifted anyway. And it will all depend on the dominant worldview of those in power.
it will never be enough
Also, it will never be enough. LGBT activists, those who are of the religion of what I call “sexual humanism,” will not accept this and be content—they will push for more, as they’ve proved over and over again in their attack on biblical marriage. They will not be satisfied until everyone embraces, celebrates, and promotes the sinful anti-biblical LGBT lifestyle. (And even then, they may not be content!) For example, an LGBT advocacy organization said, regarding the Fairness for All legislation:
Let us be crystal clear. We will NEVER compromise away the protections of every LGBTQ person from discrimination in order to satisfy those who wish to use religion as a weapon for discrimination.
In other words, they are really saying, “we will never accept Christians having the right to a different worldview based on the Bible.”
Many of these LGBT activists are very anti-Christian and anti-biblical and don’t want anyone to have the freedom to believe and live out what God’s Word teaches. Sexually immoral humanists speak out against “discrimination” while they discriminate against Christians and push for further discrimination. Ultimately, these “compromise” positions won’t satisfy the unsatisfiable LGBT mob as they want everyone to join in their perversion of God’s design. They want to push the culture more and more towards Sodom. Thankfully, we are seeing people saved out of this evil movement.
The increased push for accepting LGBT lifestyles is exactly what we read about in Romans 1:18–2:6—it’s a rebellion against God and his created order (ordained in Genesis 1:27 and 2:24). No matter what our culture does, and how many religious freedoms are stripped away, we must boldly continue teaching what God’s Word clearly says:
Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? (Matthew 19:4-5).
praise the Lord, there are people boldly standing for religious freedom
Issues regarding religious freedom here in the United States may seem very discouraging—after all, we’re seeing freedoms disappearing at an alarming rate. But, praise the Lord, there are people boldly standing for religious freedom, even at personal cost. For example, a Christian T-shirt printer here in Kentucky was sued for refusing to print a T-shirt for a local “pride” event because he could not agree with the message they asked him to print. He fought back and recently won his case at the Kentucky Supreme Court level (I’ll be blogging more about this later this week).
I discussed his story today on Answers News with cohosts Dr. Gabriela Haynes and Bryan Osborne.
