As I look back on the formation of Answers in Genesis and the building of the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter, I can’t but stand in awe. God has brought so many unique people together at this time in history to enable all this to happen. Two such vital people are Buddy and Kay Davis.
In the late 1980s, I heard about Buddy Davis, a Christian in America who sculptured dinosaurs. In 1990, the Australian ministry Creation Science Foundation that began in our home in Brisbane published an article about Buddy and his dinosaurs. One of our Australia staff at that time had traveled to America, visited Buddy and Kay, and interviewed him for the article. When I reread this article, I understood that Buddy really believed God was going to do something special with his dinosaurs. He didn’t know what that would be at the time, but he said he would love to see his dinosaurs in a museum to teach about creation.
The Answers in Genesis ministry officially began in December 1993. In 1994, we held one of our first conferences in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. Buddy and his wife, Kay, attended that conference and asked those of us from the AiG ministry to come to their cabin to see Buddy’s dinosaurs. I remember seeing his dinosaurs for the first time and explaining that I had a burden to build a creation museum, and that it was a primary reason for moving to Kentucky and starting up the ministry of AiG.
Buddy and Kay then excitedly told me they would love to see their dinosaurs in a creation museum. I would have to say that this was the first time I began to envision how a creation museum could become a reality. Yes, we could display these dinosaurs, which would be a phenomenal attraction for people!
While at his cabin, I learned Buddy could also play the guitar and sing, and I asked him to do that for us. He sang a song he composed: “He Makes Dreams Out of Nothing.” I said, “Buddy, you are going to sing that song at the opening of the Creation Museum.” And 13 years later, on May 28, 2007, he did just that! The vision became a reality. Buddy has directly, or through books and videos, sung and spoken to millions from across the world.
There’s so much more to tell. But what an amazing journey it’s been with Buddy and Kay and the many others God providentially brought together to build a ministry that now impacts tens of millions of people each year.

In 2021, Buddy suffered a serious health issue and continues to need prayer. But he is so excited to learn how his dinosaurs, videos, books, and the many wonderful teaching songs he has composed and recorded continue to minister to children, teens, and adults around the world. A number of his songs and videos are also featured on our streaming platform, Answers TV.
Over the years, God has used the gifts of many individuals to contribute to the ministry of Answers in Genesis. Buddy Davis’s dinosaurs and music have doubtless encouraged the faith and evangelized countless visitors to the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter!
What do you get when you combine 48 years of marriage, lots of dinosaurs, nine musical instruments, and a passion for God and his Word? Easy—the ministry of Buddy and Kay Davis! Most friends of AiG know the name Buddy Davis from his sculpted dinosaurs, kids’ workshops, music, Amazing Adventures videos, and more. And while Buddy is the face and voice everybody knows, his lovely wife (whom he met in high school) has been an integral part of his ministry, traveling and serving alongside him.
Buddy is a very talented artist and loves to perform his music and do children’s workshops. But he is not interested in the computer—and that is where Kay’s gifting comes in. She puts together all his workshop programs and concert soundtracks, answers his emails, and arranges his travel and ministry duties. Plus, Kay loves adventure, too! Together they kayaked the entire length of the Everglades (100 miles) in six days . . . with only a paper map, camping on wooden platforms along the way and paddling 10–12 hours a day.

Kay says she has no musical gifts (though she does sing while mowing the lawn!), but she loves Buddy’s music, especially “He Makes Dreams Out of Nothing.”
As Kay says, “This was God’s plan, not ours. And it has been amazing to see how God has orchestrated each adventure along the way.”
Answers in Genesis is an apologetics ministry, dedicated to helping Christians defend their faith and proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ.
