This is the shocking discovery from a study Answers in Genesis commissioned from America’s Research Group, led by respected researcher Britt Beemer . . . and revealed in the book Already Gone.

The national survey found that we are actually losing our children in elementary, middle school, and high school rather than college, and the “Sunday school syndrome” is contributing to the epidemic, rather than helping alleviate it!

This is an alarming wake-up call for the church! It shows how our approaches to Christian education are failing … and our children are paying the price.

Here are just a few of the shocking statistics revealed by the study about the “Sunday school syndrome.”

Those who regularly attend Sunday school are:

• more likely to leave the church than those who do not.
• more likely to believe that the Bible is less true.
• more likely to defend that abortion and gay marriage should be legal.

And the alarming statistics go on and on.

Our Already Gone research also highlighted that most Sunday school/ children’s curricula teach “Bible stories,” some doctrine, spiritual things, relationships, etc., but miss something vital: by and large, they don’t teach people how to defend the Christian faith against contemporary attacks, how to answer skeptical questions concerning the Bible, how to connect the Bible to the real world, and how to understand the Bible as a book of history that is foundational to our entire worldview.

In response, Answers in Genesis is stepping out in faith to produce an entire three-year apologetics-based curriculum (156 lessons total) for our churches—from kindergarten through adult (8 diff erent age groups)—by fall 2012.

This new curriculum is a massive undertaking. It will include such vital areas as general Christian apologetics, creation apologetics, biblical authority teaching, biblical worldview, inductive Bible study, and a gospel emphasis—preparing people for the secular world they live in.
