A Biblical Authority Ministry!

Now, I could spend pages unpacking all of that. We are not against science—we love science. And we do believe in a young earth and reject millions of years. But one must understand the difference between historical and observational science.

The point I want us all to understand is that I’ve always positioned the AiG organization as a “biblical authority” ministry.

In fact, I really don’t like the term “young earth” ministry to describe who we are. This ministry, which originally started in Australia in 1977, did so because I and other like- minded Christians saw the teaching of evolution and billions of years as a direct attack on the authority of God’s Word beginning in Genesis.

When I began speaking in churches (my first creation apologetics church presentation was in 1975), I had a burden to help people understand that Genesis is the foundation of all doctrine, the Bible, and our Christian worldview. I taught that when one starts with God’s Word, one does not find billions of years or evolution. In other words, it’s important to recognize that our stand as a ministry rejecting evolution and teaching a young earth and universe is because of our stand on Scripture. And of course, we show that real observational science does not contradict this—but it does contradict billions of years.

The AiG ministry has always had an emphasis on proclaiming the authority of the Word of God and the saving gospel. When I’ve been asked by reporters to sum up the ministry of AiG, the Ark Encounter, and the Creation Museum, I often say something like, “The history in Genesis is true—that’s why the gospel founded in that history is true.” Our stand on biblical authority is also why AiG doesn’t change its stand on Scripture when the culture changes, as some other Christian organizations and churches have. Sadly, some Christian leaders have softened their stand on LGBT issues. But if we are committed to biblical authority, the culture will never determine what our stand on Scripture will be!
