This is Ken Ham, a producer of the chronological Bible program, Answers Bible Curriculum.
“In the Bleak Midwinter” is a more obscure Christmas carol than others we’ve look at this week. Its theme is how the Lord God Almighty, adored by angels, condescended to come and arrive in the most humble way: laid in a manger.
Now, this song features elements not mentioned in Scripture, such as animals surrounding Jesus, Mary worshipping him, and a stable. It also places Jesus’ birth at midwinter, but no one knows for sure.
We must remember to separate tradition or speculation from biblical fact. But this carol is a great reminder of Christ’s humility. That he “emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant” and became “obedient to death.”
