This is Ken Ham, author of the new family commentary on Genesis, Creation to Babel.
Noah took two of every kind of land animal on the ark—including two representatives of the kangaroo kind.
Now, these creatures survived the global flood, got off the ark in the Middle East, and then spread out around the world. But how did kangaroos get all the way to Australia?
Well, it’s possible they “island hopped” through the Pacific islands. Keep in mind, kangaroos are great swimmers, so they may have been able to swim between islands.
Also, plant material ripped-up during the flood would’ve formed enormous floating rafts. Ocean currents would’ve moved these rafts, transporting animals to new places. So that’s another possibility.
