Every year on this day, Americans take time to celebrate freedom. The fourth of July marks the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Now, Americans have a rich tradition of cherishing independence, but many people have fallen for the lie that they don’t need to depend on anyone in this life.

You see, our sinful nature leads us to believe we can determine truth for ourselves, apart from God. And if we’re good enough—well, God’ll let us into heaven.

But the Bible teaches it’s only by the life, death, and resurrection of Christ that we can be saved from our sin. We’re utterly dependent on Christ to be saved from sin—as well as our life, breath, and everything else!
