This is Ken Ham, celebrating our Savior at our free ChristmasTime at the Ark Encounter.
When the wise men visited the young Jesus, they brought gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
Now, that’s really all Matthew’s account says about their gifts. But Christians have often thought each gift represents something about Christ.
Gold is for divinity. For example, the ark of the covenant was covered with gold. Perhaps this gift highlighted that Jesus was Immanuel, “God with us.”
Frankincense is a resin that was burned as a fragrant offering to God. This gift reminds us that Jesus came to offer his life for us.
And myrrh was a spice used in embalming the dead. Jesus would eventually die, be buried, and rise for us that we might receive the gift of eternal life.
